Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Happy St. Patrick’s Day! I have one Irish relative, Lily Daily, who lived in the 1800s. That is the extent of my Irish blood. That being said, I decided to go all out today and wear my kelly green jacket, a scarf with the orange, white, and green of Ireland’s flag, and a tiny green hat (like a Leprechaun). I love how working in a school makes this perfectly normal, and even helps to build relationships with the kids.

Here are some of the responses I received today:

“Miss Askeland, you look a-DOR-able” - second grader
“Miss Askeland, you’re a leprechaun!” - third grader
“Um. Ok.” - sixth grader
“Thank you for wearing the colors of my country!” - a second grader, who is Lithuanian, but was apparently born in Ireland, I learned today.

It’s always interesting to see the difference between reactions of a 2nd grader and a 6th grader!
Sláinte!

  1. So cute, being taken as a leprechaun! At Christmas , I have a green and red plaid dress I wear. Many a kindergartner has asked me with wide eyes, "Are you Mrs. Santa Claus?"

  2. Love their responses! What a change from 2nd to 6th grade. I also wore a mini green leprechaun hat today and my students loved it! Perks of being a teacher...totally normal to dress like a leprechaun.
